some big changes for the mrs.

so i am finally doing it....
changing my diet almost completely. one step at a time of course.
starting with dairy

i think posting it will hold me more accountable to actually try and stick with my new diet.
here is the deal....

it's no secret that we want to have a baby. and we've lost two already. i'm not ready to do that again. so i'm trying to do everything i can to not have this happen again. starting with my diet.

i've always had issues with high acid levels. we first really looked into it a couple of years ago. at that time i wasn't ready to make huge changes. i got on some medicine to solve the problem for a bit. well after some more research i decided it was about time i made some changes.

first off the list...regular ol' cows milk.

this one is nearly IMPOSSIBLE for me considering i drink about 2-3 glasses a day of milk. just plain. i'm telling you i love milk. so almond milk it is.

i started with vanilla. it sounded good. and boy it is. but i think it might be too much for cereal. a little too sweet. i think i might need to go with regular. another negative is that almond milk is so much more expensive. ahh...our tiny budget. i'm hoping i can try and get off the habit of just drinking milk plain and drink water instead.

any advice would be great. next on the list is white flour, cheese and red meats. i'm not sure worried about red meats but white flour...seriously! what have i gotten myself into.

hopefully this will all help get my body back where it's supposed to be. wish me luck!

  1. i've heard of women doing a cleanse for a week and then getting pregnant that month after YEARS of trying. i mean its worth a shot. good luck with the new diet though; i sure hope it works out for you guys. I'm so sorry you've had to go through 2 miscarriages- i can't imagine. i guess it'll just make it even more special when you finally do have a baby.

    1. Thanks Kerri! I'm really hoping it helps as well. Maybe I should consider a cleanse!

  2. You are amazing!!! My advice is to think of all the yummy things you can still eat. Like fresh fruits and vegetables and make them extra special so that you don't miss the other stuff so much. You are a saint in my mind for attempting such a difficult task, but hey if you can stop bitting your finger nails you can do anything! I'm still working on stop bitting mine...

  3. Good luck Syd. The first time I tried vanilla almond milk I hated it and gave the carton to my co-work. Then a while later I gave plain, unsweetened a try and love it. I don't want to sound like a creep but from time to time when baby thoughts come to my mind I think of you and say a little prayer.

  4. You can do it!! I've had to give up wheat and Jesse has had to give up dairy and its not easy but so worth it. I've struggled with thyroid/hormone issues and changing my diet helped A LOT! Next up is sugur for me. My mother in law gave me the cook book "Cooking for Isaiah" which is all dairy free-gluten free and it. is. awesome. All "kid approved" recipes (aka picky eater approved). Check it out!!

  8. Try the unsweetened vanilla. It tastes better and has much less sugar! I'm allergic to dairy, so holler if you need any pointers ;) before you know it, milk will taste sour. Whenever I have a sip, it tastes so...expired. and salty. And not good.

    1. Okay yes I am going to try it. I like the regular stuff but it's a little too sweet for me for just regular drinking. I may be calling you soon. I think I need a LOT of pointers!

  9. try trader joe's almond milk - not too sweet but not so plain it tastes funky. the almond breeze unsweetened vanilla boxed kind at costco is also yummy. good luck!

  10. Syd, I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriages. I had no idea! I'm afraid I'm going to have to make to switch here soon too...not for baby reasons, but for the fear of becoming lactose :( Good luck with your diet and the insanity! I might have to join that boat soon.
