chicago feels more like home with visitors // weekend recap
momma barfuss came to visit us. she came to watch spence in his white coat ceremony but really i think she came just to play (or at least i like to think so). we loved having her here with us. it made me feel like i was not on a vacation and that i really lived in chicago. it was fun showing her around "our" places and neighborhood.
mom rented a car (lifesaver really) and on friday ran a few errands for me. we've been surviving well without a car but it was nice to have one for a few small out of way type of things. we spent the rest of the morning driving around and seeing fun neighborhoods. then was spencers white coat followed by a night out. we wanted to give mom the true chicago experience (even though she has been here before). we of course had to have deep dish pizza. pizzeria uno it was. we have been told that was the best place to go but to be honest it wasn't our favorite. still good though!
mom and spence. after we ate our life away in pizza....
it was so blasted hot on saturday...oh wow! i thought i was going to die. it was one of those days where we should have gone to the beach instead. it was still fun on the cruise seeing all the city.
my cute husband. this was towards the end of the cruise where we were all sweating to death. i'm impressed he looks so happy still :-)
again...i can't get enough of our city!
we had a blast learning some of the history of chicago and playing tourist. though i think we'll be playing tourist for a bit longer still. i'm still walking around wide-eyed as i slowly explore the city.
we spent the rest of the day shopping. again thanks mom for all you did for us. she loaded us up on birthday goodness (for the mr.) and some kitchen gadgets that we couldn't have afforded (for the mrs.). we headed home, took a nap and of course played games. like i said i feel so much more at home with mom visiting. just playing games made me less homesick.
on sunday after church we decided to get out of the city and go find the temple. you can read more about temples here.
we look the long way to explore some more. on our way we found this gem. oh wow was all i could say. yes those are glowing red eyes. and yes they had a line out the door (even with it raining). and yes we will be back to visit when it's not a sunday!
keeping myself entertained taking pictures. again i can't say how nice it was to have a car. yay for cars.
oh how i love to see the temple. this was one other place that really made me feel at home. too bad the gates were shut and we weren't able to walk around. it was just nice seeing the temple and knowing it wasn't so far away.
it really was an incredible weekend. mom really took care of us! she made us meals, stocked our kitchen, cleaned the place, taught us new games and really made us feel special and loved. our first visitor was a success. after this weekend it was officially decided we love visitors. so please if you would like to come stay we have a room for you! yay!
thanks mom for everything!

sadly this is a typical picture for me. i try not to post too many of these but i couldn't resist this time.
saturday we slept in (so heavenly) and went grocery shopping. again so much nicer with a car. our sweet mom loaded us up on all the important items including ice cream. how nice it was to not have to budget our groceries this ones. she was so nice to really take care of us!
we spent too long at the grocery store that we almost missed our architecture tour. luckily we made it with about 30 seconds to spare. sadly we couldn't sit by each other. thank goodness for little kids who were more interested in the treats downstairs that we finally got to sit together for the last half of the cruise.
welcome to our beautiful city. we are in love.it was so blasted hot on saturday...oh wow! i thought i was going to die. it was one of those days where we should have gone to the beach instead. it was still fun on the cruise seeing all the city.

mr. med school and his white coat
northwestern founders day ceremony was held on friday
aka spencers white coat
please excuse the heads in front of me....i was pretty far away and didn't want to stand up.
welcome to northwestern medical school. interesting fact...northwestern was the very first medical school to have clinical work included in the education. before northwestern med students just took science classes and called it go. they were dr.'s before even seeing the inside of a hospital. boy am i glad things have changed.
spencers mom flew out for the event. it was so wonderful having her with us. thanks to her spencer is here today. she and his dad put so much time, effort and money towards spencer and his education. thank you for getting my man to this place in life!
of course we had to run outside and get a picture in front of the water. we may not be in cali but chicago has great waterfront. thank you waterfront! boy does my man look cute in that coat!
the classic three. i have a feeling these three will be inseparable during the next four years. how grateful we both are for friends this early on.
and the wives. boy do i need to grow a foot or two. how grateful i am for these girls. they are already my best friends here. girls nights are going to be in high demand with our boys studying late into the night.in four short years a little md will be next to that name.
we finished taking pictures and headed over to a reception held in the med students honor. it was fun to see the sea of white coats, meet some of spencers friends and see what life as a med student will be like. we spent the rest of the weekend playing with mom!
so proud of my mr. med school

the packing begins
so last night marked the first day of "clean and organize the b. family life"
i decided to start with sydney's history. which is basically everything important to me stored at my parents house from age 4-23. yes, i decided to start with that (it's still a mystery to me why i choose that task).
i found a few gems hidden in that hold closet of mine. i made spencer endure a couple hours of "hey babe check out this picture" or "oh my gosh i can't believe i wore that" "ahh we look so little". yes picture after picture. i was in heaven.
at one point of the night spence had had enough and i was left to myself and my memories. to be honest it was a little more emotional than i thought putting things away. every piece of memory had a story. i had kept things for a reason. my first pointe shoes, my graduation ropes, my 6th grade officer t-shirt, love letters from boys in high school and so on.
i finally got to a point where my entire life history (well at least till my little 23 years of age) was boxed away in two large rubbermaids. so lets be honest i didn't really cut things down. i tried :-)
as i was about to put the boxes in storage spence came across my jr. high and high school officer sweaters. of course he had to put them on.
sometimes i wish spence had been the boy i feel in love with in jr. high. always looked up to and secretly crushed on until high school. then in high school we would have dated, gone to dances together and fallen in love. after two years of beautiful letters he would return and we could get married and have all our memories together.
but then i remember how fun it has been to share stories with each other. on long drives he'll tell me a story about a time in high school. i realize i never heard that story but now i've just learned something new about my husband of (almost) two years. and then i get happy because i am now a part of that memory. and i share stories with him. i love sharing my stories with him. if spence had been there from the beginning i wouldn't have any good stories to tell!
so here is the point.
going through memories is hard but yet still fun.
and i was able to share all those memories and the things that make me sydney b. with my husband.
and i love him even more for still loving me after some of these jr. high pictures

the mr. and mrs. made it to 3
the mr. and i have officially been married 3 months today.
its only been three months but it feels like forever (in the good kind of way)
i can't imagine not being married to the love of my life.
people told me adjusting to marriage would be hard....and some parts are (like who makes the bed, and how often we clean...hee hee)
but what surprised me...
being with spence all the time, being his wife, and being married...one of the most natural transitions of my life. i guess that means it is right!
most importantly i know that i married the perfect man for me. he truly is my best friend and the love of my life. i look at him and go crazy inside with excitement that he is my mr. spence is the most kind and loving person i've met. i am so luck to be his wife for the rest of eternity.
so because it's been 3 months, here are 3 things about being married that is better than being single.
1. a year ago nowish we would sit outside on my doorstep, cuddled in blankets and coats. why? because we couldn't be in our apartments anymore but we didn't want to say goodbye. so we would sit outside in the freezing cold for hours just talking and laughing. i hated saying goodbye to that boy.
-now....i get to cuddle up next to my boy in the warm house under our covers and say goodnight, not goodbye, and then i get to wake up with him right next to me. and every morning we have our snuggle time, this is my most favorite time of the day. reason one why being married is better....we don't have to say goodbye.
2. reason two is simple....there is always someone on my side cheering me on. i guess spence did this before we were married but now it's even better. he knows what i'm thinking and when i'm stressed and he knows just how to cheer me up. he gets excited when something good happens, sometime even more than i do. if you know my mr. you know how incredibly smart he is (he took a test an insanely hard test last week with only studying for 15 minutes....and he did great!) yep thats my mr. but me on the other hand....well lets just say i'm doing great in classes now (he could probably do better) but he gets so excited for me and tells me how smart i am. it may sound silly but his support means the world to me. always having the supporting and encouragement is a great perk of being married.
3. reason 3. being married means i get to be a house wife. i've always been excited about this. being single i tried to be all house wifey (decorating my apartment, baking sometimes) but now that i have someone to bake for, cook for, craft for....its so much better. i get so excited to make something new for our house to show spence. and he's so cute and gets excited. sorry babe, my crafting habit is expensive...but it keeps me sane! but no matter what he loves it all, everything i make he loves, he even told me how great he has been eating (what a great thing to hear). so being married means i get to be a cute little wife for my cute husband.
love you my mr.

so we may not be as wise as my parents who after 26 years of marriage are still completely in love and are each others best friends....but i think after 3 months i know a little more about life and love.

i am so happy that my mr. married me. i'm happy he put up with me and all my second guessing (hey babe i'm not the only one who freaks out before they get married ;-)
but i know that i made the right choice and there is nothing i want more than to be with my mr. forever and ever. he is my everything. he makes me smile....all the time!
so happy 3 months babe. it's been the best 3 months of my life! i can't wait to see what the future brings us. lets go celebrate tonight...okay deal!
love you my mr.
